The next chapter in the Horizon series is set to shake things up. Introducing Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new hunting game that focuses on cooperative play. This time, players won’t step into Aloy’s shoes. Instead, you’ll be part of a tactical team of up to three hunters, while also having the option to go solo with NPC bots. As of now, there’s no official release date, but the game will be available on both PS5 and PC.
On February 5, Sony and Guerrilla Games announced details about this exciting addition. Unlike its predecessors, which emphasized single-player explorations of stunning worlds, Hunters Gathering features “challenging and replayable hunts.” Players choose from various characters, each equipped with unique weapons and abilities. There’s even a “rogue-lite perk system” to help you enhance your hunter during missions.
Between hunts, players can relax in a lively social hub. Here, you can meet up with friends, customize your characters, and prepare for your next mission. This hub offers shops for upgrades and a community space to plan multiplayer outings.
The game promises a captivating narrative campaign that introduces new mysteries, characters, and threats within the Horizon universe. What’s noteworthy is that this storyline will be fully canon and will receive updates post-launch, ensuring that players remain engaged over time.
Guerrilla Games plans to host a playtest at the end of February. This event will allow players to experience two modes ahead of the full launch. One of the exciting features is crossplay, which means players on PS5 and PC can team up seamlessly. You can even sign up for the early beta here. However, it’s important to note that the game is still in development, so we don’t know if it will come out this year.
Guerrilla’s game director, Arjan Bak, shared his thoughts on this shift: “Multiplayer games have always been part of our studio’s DNA. Bringing a co-op experience to the Horizon universe has been a long-time dream, and we’re committed to creating something special.”
As interest grows, gaming communities on social media platforms are buzzing with excitement. Hashtags like #HorizonHunters are trending as fans share their hopes for the game. According to recent surveys, multiplayer gaming is increasingly popular; about 70% of gamers prefer titles that offer cooperative modes. This trend highlights a shift in how players want to connect and experience games together.
In a nutshell, Horizon Hunters Gathering is set to redefine the franchise, combining cooperative action with a rich narrative, and it’s capturing the attention of gamers everywhere.
