Japanese blog Mac Otakara recently shared details about the upcoming iPhone 17e and iPad 12, which are set to launch soon.
In February 2025, Apple introduced the entry-level iPhone 16e, which boasts a 6.1-inch OLED screen, an A18 chip, and a single 48-megapixel rear camera. The rumored iPhone 17e is expected to be an upgraded version of this model.
Sources suggest that the iPhone 17e will maintain a similar design to the iPhone 16e, dismissing earlier rumors about featuring a Dynamic Island. Instead, it’s likely to keep the notch design.
Expected Upgrades for the iPhone 17e
The iPhone 17e is anticipated to have three significant improvements:
- A19 Chip: This new chip will enhance speed and energy efficiency compared to the A18 in the 16e.
- C1X Modem: The latest modem promises up to double the speed of its predecessor and enhanced power efficiency for 5G and LTE.
- N1 Chip: With support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, this chip aims to boost the performance of features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
As for the iPad 12, it’s expected to resemble the iPad 11 but will include the newer A18 chip, along with an increase in RAM from 6GB to 8GB.
A report from Macwelt suggests that Apple plans to announce the iPhone 17e on Thursday, February 19. This timing aligns with last year’s announcement for the iPhone 16e, which also occurred on February 19. While it’s unusual for Apple to unveil products on a Thursday, it’s still a possibility.
Additional Features
The iPhone 17e may introduce MagSafe technology, enabling faster wireless charging up to 25W. This would allow for magnetic accessory attachments, a feature not available in the 16e.
Currently, no major design changes have been hinted at, meaning we can expect a product similar to the iPhone 16e. In the U.S., the 16e starts at $599, but the price for the 17e remains unknown.
