SAN ANTONIO — Recently, the Bexar County Center for Health Care Services (CHCS) celebrated its 60-year anniversary with an emotional luncheon. This event spotlighted the remarkable commitment of its staff, who offer essential support to countless residents facing mental health challenges and other difficulties.
Ashley Paredez from Fox SA hosted the 7th Annual Employee Service Anniversary Awards Luncheon. During the event, 93 team members were honored for their dedication, with service milestones ranging from five to 35 years.
One standout among the honorees was Delores Haines, who has spent 15 years as the children’s outpatient clinical director. Haines emphasized the importance of support in her role: “Families come to us for help. It’s our job to walk beside them. If we can make a small difference, we’ve done our job.”
Recent studies show that nearly 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year. This highlights the vital work organizations like CHCS do. Their efforts not only aid individual families but strengthen the community as a whole.
Haines shared a memorable moment when a mother told her that CHCS saved her daughter’s life. This testimony reflects the profound impact dedicated professionals can have.
In today’s world, where mental health issues are more visible, the role of community support is more crucial than ever. A 2021 survey indicated that 76% of Americans believe mental health should be prioritized as much as physical health.
As communities rally to support mental health initiatives, recognize the value of those on the front lines. They’re making a real difference, one life at a time. For more on mental health challenges and resources, check the National Institute of Mental Health.
