Box Office Update: ‘Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience’ Takes the Crown on a Quiet Friday, While ‘Send Help’ Earns .8 Million!

It’s a quiet weekend at the box office, mostly due to the Super Bowl stealing all the attention. This gave the K-pop concert film “Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience” a chance to shine. The film, which captures the group’s world tour and their sold-out show in L.A., made about $3 million on Friday alone. By Sunday, it’s expected to hit around $5 million.

Coming in second is “Send Help,” which earned $2.8 million on Friday. That’s a drop of 61% from its opening day. The film, a quirky comedy-thriller, stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as two mismatched characters stranded on a remote island. It could reach a total of $10 million by Sunday, surpassing its earlier box office performance.

The rom-com “Solo Mio” took the third spot with an estimated $2.7 million, projected to make around $6.6 million by the weekend’s end. Featuring Kevin James, the story follows a man who decides to take his honeymoon solo after getting left at the altar.

Next up is “Iron Lung,” a film from YouTube star Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach. It made around $2.04 million on Friday, a significant drop from its opening day. The movie is based on an indie horror game and involves a convict scavenging in a bleak future. It should end the weekend with about $5.7 million, bringing its total to $30.7 million.

In seventh place is “The Strangers: Chapter 3,” which made $1.58 million. This horror film features a young woman being hunted by masked psychopaths and is set to earn about $3.8 million by Sunday. The original “Strangers” film debuted back in 2008, with a sequel releasing in 2018. This new chapter aims to close out the reboot trilogy.

Finally, “Dracula,” directed by Luc Besson, rounds out the top five with $2.03 million on Friday, likely grossing around $4.1 million by Sunday. Caleb Landry Jones plays Dracula, with Christoph Waltz portraying his nemesis, Van Helsing.

Interestingly, the box office trends show that audiences are increasingly drawn to diverse genres, from K-pop to horror, reflecting changing tastes.

Markiplier’s involvement in “Iron Lung” exemplifies how online personalities are becoming significant players in Hollywood, tapping into their fan bases.
