Heartbreaking 4-3 Loss: Toledo Rockets Fall to UIC in Thrilling Match – University of Toledo Athletics

CHICAGO – The Toledo women’s tennis team faced a tough match against UIC on Saturday, losing 4-3 in a tightly contested battle.

In doubles, Gaby Rondon and Anastasia Akuginova fought hard on court two, winning 6-3. However, losses on the other two courts meant Toledo couldn’t secure the doubles point.

In singles, Toledo showed strength, winning on courts one, three, and four. JJ Scholten claimed a three-set victory on court one, notching her third win of the season. Neha Guru had a strong straight-set win on court three, while Annika Munson extended her winning streak to four matches with a dramatic win on court four.

UIC, however, triumphed on courts two, five, and six to take the overall match.

Head Coach Tracy Mauntler reflected on the match, stating, “These tough losses will hopefully drive us for future success. Today was rough. We got into a hole and just couldn’t climb out. Losing 4-3 is brutal.”

Looking ahead, Toledo will aim to bounce back during their road swing as they head to Cleveland State on Friday, February 13, with the match starting at 2:00 p.m.
