Vande Bharat Express trains are transforming rail travel in India. Journeys that used to take hours are now shortened by 2–3 hours. Indian Railways is expanding the Vande Bharat service to connect Bengaluru and Mangaluru, promising a quicker, smoother ride for passengers.
The South Western Railway (SWR) zone will manage this new service. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the plans during a press conference in Bengaluru. The train will operate after completing necessary electrification work and securing all safety approvals. With its launch, traveling between these two cities will be much faster.
Karnataka currently boasts 22 Vande Bharat services. This includes 11 train pairs serving various routes, with 14 linked to Bengaluru. This city is the clear hub for Vande Bharat trains in Karnataka, with most service activity centered here.
The new Bengaluru–Mangaluru Vande Bharat train will feature cutting-edge technology. It will include the KAVACH safety system, semi-permanent couplers for a comfortable ride, and automatic doors. Each coach will have emergency alarm buttons and communication units, ensuring safety and connectivity for passengers.
Additionally, aerosol-based fire detection systems will be installed in electrical cabinets and toilets. The train will have a top design speed of 180 km/h, with a regular operating speed of 160 km/h. The crew will utilize a voice-recorded communication system that maintains data safety in case of emergencies.
Enhancements also include CCTV cameras in every coach, UV-C air disinfection in the AC, improved ride comfort, and a Coach Condition Monitoring System for real-time checks. Importantly, there will be specially designed lavatories for Divyangjan passengers.
With these advancements, the Vande Bharat Express aims to redefine train travel comfort and safety in India, making it an exciting option for travelers.
