The University of Kentucky Economic Development Collaborative (EDC) is gearing up for its annual event, the State of the EDC, on February 26, 2026. This gathering will take place at The Cornerstone from 1 to 2:30 p.m. It’s a chance for leaders from the university and the region to come together and discuss economic development in Kentucky.
This year’s event will showcase findings from a comprehensive five-year review completed in late 2025. George Ward, the chair of the EDC, emphasizes that this review not only reflects on their progress but also incorporates community feedback. He says the insights gained will strengthen the EDC’s focus on economic growth, local talent, and enhancing the university’s influence throughout Kentucky.
A significant feature of the event will be the presentation about Advancing Kentucky Together (AKT). This initiative, led by the university, aims to connect various organizations to build a better, healthier Kentucky. Melody Flowers, EDC co-chair, believes that by merging the EDC’s goals with AKT’s collaborative spirit, they can significantly improve opportunities and well-being across the state.
Michael W. Clark, Ph.D., will share an economic outlook for Kentucky, providing insights that might impact business and investment decisions. Following this, there will be a panel discussion exploring key industry markets like biotech, agricultural technology, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare.
Interestingly, recent statistics show that Kentucky has experienced a growth surge in these sectors, drawing increased interest from investors. For instance, the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development reported that 2022 brought in a record $12 billion in new investments, a clear signal of the state’s improving economic landscape.
