Jason Momoa is set to star in a new film adaptation of Helldivers, based on the popular video game from Arrowhead Game Studios. Directed by Justin Lin, the movie will hit theaters on November 10, 2027.
The Helldivers franchise kicked off in 2015, and its sequel, Helldivers 2, quickly became a hit, selling over 12 million units in just four months after its 2024 launch. The game, featuring intense battles against alien creatures, is now also available on Xbox.
In this story, players join an elite group known as Helldivers, who protect their home planet, Super Earth, from various alien threats. With its engaging gameplay and cooperative elements, Helldivers 2 has built a dedicated fanbase.
Momoa isn’t new to action roles. He’s also slated to play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, due out on June 26. This year is shaping up to be quite busy for him as he stars in multiple films, including The Wrecking Crew with Dave Bautista and Animal Friends alongside Ryan Reynolds. He will also portray Blanka in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, releasing on October 16, and reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three set for December 18.
Historically, video game adaptations haven’t always done well at the box office. However, projects like Sony’s Uncharted, which grossed $407 million, suggest an upward trend. Recent successes like HBO’s The Last of Us indicate that audiences are increasingly open to these adaptations.
Currently, Helldivers is the only major release scheduled for November 10, which could work in its favor. With strong production teams behind it, expectations are high.
