Sarah Knecht and Bruce Stouffer have joined the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County, bringing their wealth of experience to the organization.
Knecht recently retired after a distinguished career with the city of Santa Barbara, where she served nearly 22 years as the city attorney and interim city administrator. Her focus has been on affordable housing financing and regulation, a critical area as housing issues escalate nationwide. In fact, a recent report showed that nearly 50% of renters in California face housing cost burdens, making her expertise especially relevant.
On the other hand, Stouffer has a strong background in finance and has volunteered for Habitat Santa Barbara for many years. With a degree from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Michigan, he has worked for about 40 years in various finance roles, including his most recent position at a small investment banking firm in Silicon Valley. His practical knowledge of business finances will help Habitat in securing resources for ongoing projects.
“We are excited to welcome Sarah and Bruce to the Habitat board,” said Jessica de L’Arbre, CEO of Habitat Santa Barbara. “Their combined expertise in housing and finance will be crucial as we tackle the housing crisis in our area.”
Established in 2000, Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County serves communities from Carpinteria to Gaviota. Their mission is to create stability through affordable shelter, a goal that resonates even more today as housing challenges increase across the country.
