Bloomberg News: “Musk Explores Blockchain for Government Efficiency”
Elon Musk, known for his roles at Tesla and now as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is looking into how blockchain technology can make government operations smoother. This news surfaced on the 25th, according to Bloomberg.
Musk’s team is having conversations about using blockchain to track government spending, improve data security, process payments more effectively, and manage buildings. They have even met with experts from various public blockchain projects to assess their potential.
The name ‘DOGE’ is a nod to Dogecoin, and it seems fitting that the department’s focus is on modern tech for government use. Established during the second Trump administration, DOGE aims to upgrade federal technology and software to boost efficiency. They’re collaborating with the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to find ways to trim expenses, with a deadline for recommendations set for July next year.
While using blockchain on a large scale isn’t a groundbreaking idea, applying it to a huge entity like the U.S. government is still in the early stages. If DOGE successfully implements this, it could lead to one of the largest government projects in U.S. history.
