Kids Meals Inc delivers free healthy lunches to preschoolers in need from Monday to Friday. Many families struggle to get to grocery stores. “We are ending childhood hunger,” says Ali Flanders Dodson, the Chief Advancement Officer.
In the greater Houston area, Kids Meals Inc aims to stop childhood hunger for young children. They bring meals directly to homes in neighborhoods where families often lack transportation. For these families, reaching a store can involve long walks or multiple bus rides with small children in tow. With rising food costs and limited public assistance, consistent meal delivery relies on strong funding, dedicated volunteers, and efficient systems.
“Our mission goes beyond just feeding kids; we want every child to thrive,” Dodson explains.
Families can qualify if they have at least one child aged five or younger, live within designated delivery areas, and meet National School Lunch Program criteria. The application is available online in English, Spanish, and Farsi. Once approved, children receive a nutritious lunch every weekday and groceries three times a week, delivered right to their door.
Kids Meals Inc is the only home meal delivery service for preschoolers in the U.S. By breaking down transportation barriers, they ensure that young kids get the nutrition they need. In 2025, they served over 11,000 preschoolers and delivered more than 3.6 million meals.
Take the Alvarado family, for example. They have five kids and struggled to afford food. After connecting with Kids’ Meals, they formed a lasting relationship with their delivery driver. During meal drop-offs, Veronica even played soccer with their son, Diego. Thanks to consistent meals, the kids have thrived—one became an electrician, and another earned a full scholarship to Johns Hopkins University. “The money saved on food helps families pay bills and focus on the future,” shared the Kids’ Meals team.
Community support is vital. Nearly 200 volunteers work Monday through Saturday to prepare meals. A donation of just $2 provides a healthy meal for a child. “Your hands and your heart can make a real difference,” Dodson adds.
Looking ahead, Kids Meals plans to deliver over 4.2 million meals in 2026, aiming to enroll more than 14,000 preschoolers. Their long-term goal is to serve 26,000 children daily by 2031. “Building genuine, trust-based relationships is key to keeping our supporters engaged,” Dodson emphasizes.
The battle against childhood hunger is ongoing. Recent statistics show that 1 in 6 children in the U.S. face food insecurity. Organizations like Kids Meals play a crucial role in changing this narrative.
