Memphis Women’s Tennis Faces Tough Challenge Against Wake Forest
The University of Memphis women’s tennis team had a tough outing against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, losing 6-1. It was marked by five intense three-set matches.
In doubles action, the teams split the first two matches. Natalia Koppova and Rebecca Frant lost 3-6. However, Clemence Thouard and Alicia Mall bounced back with a 6-3 win. The Tigers’ duo, Sofiia Mykhailets and Emma Dvorackova, fought hard but lost a tiebreaker 7-6, which secured the doubles point for Wake Forest.
The singles matches also showcased battles, with five of the six matches going to deciding sets. Wake Forest quickly took a 2-0 lead after winning at court five with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-2. Although Alicia Mall and Natalia Koppova both won their first sets, they ultimately lost their matches 4-6 in the third sets.
Emma Dvorackova’s match followed a similar pattern—she won her second set, but still lost in the third. The lone bright spot for the Tigers was Sofiia Mykhailets, who clinched the only point for her team, winning 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (5) at court one.
Now, Memphis stands at 0-5 for the season and will look to bounce back against Clemson on February 14.
