Hawks Shine at the Tufts Cupid Challenge
This past weekend, the Hawks women’s indoor track and field team showcased their talents at the Tufts Cupid Challenge in Medford, Massachusetts. Three competitors took on the challenge of the pentathlon, a one-day event combining five events: the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800-meter run.
Performance Highlights:
Jordan Murphy, a junior from East Hampton, Conn., excelled in the Invitational meet. She secured an impressive fifth place overall. Murphy set a new program history record for the 60m hurdles, finishing in 9.44 seconds. She also reached 1.73 meters in the high jump, marking her as the second-best jumper in Hartford’s history. Additionally, she finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.07 and tenth in the long jump with a distance of 4.96 meters. In shot put, she claimed fifth place with a throw of 10.56 meters.
Emily Breau, a freshman from Meriden, Conn., competed in the open pentathlon and finished fourth overall. She made her mark in the program’s history with the ninth-best pentathlon score. Her individual performances included fifth place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.10 seconds, third in the 800 meters at 2:35, second in the high jump at 1.49 meters, and third in the long jump with a leap of 4.89 meters.
Mariah Nichols, a senior from Barton, N.Y., also competed in the open pentathlon and placed 16th overall. She showed her strength in shot put, finishing tenth with a throw of 8.52 meters.
What’s Next?
The Hawks will take their talents to New York City for the NYU Division III Invitational on February 14th.
