Joyful F.A.R.M.S. in Ozark, Alabama, is teaming up with the Dothan Kiwanis Club to tackle food insecurity in the area. This partnership aims to provide fresh vegetables to seniors over 60 who rely primarily on Social Security for their income.
The Wiregrass Area Food Bank’s Brown Paper Bag Program will distribute these fresh veggies as part of their efforts. Belinda Thomas, the founder of Joyful F.A.R.M.S., finds immense joy in helping the community. She believes in the power of fresh food and hopes to inspire others about its benefits. “It’s exciting to offer a solution and make agriculture appealing again,” she said.
According to Trisha Huckaba, a board member of the Kiwanis Club, this collaboration is a win-win. “It’s a blessing for both the Kiwanis Club and the elderly who will receive these fresh items, which they often can’t access,” Huckaba shared.
Distributions will start on February 18th, and folks interested in learning more about sustainable farming can visit Joyful F.A.R.M.S. at 187 Roosevelt Avenue in Ozark.
