SALISBURY — This Valentine’s Day, Novant Health Foundation spread joy by delivering 30,000 bouquets of flowers to patients and team members in hospitals across North and South Carolina, including Rowan County. The generous donation came from Food Lion, a company deeply rooted in the community.
Gary Blabon, president of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, expressed his gratitude for the donation. He emphasized how a simple bouquet can brighten a caregiver’s day and uplift a patient’s spirits. “Food Lion truly understands the importance of caring for its neighbors,” he said.
Kim Henderson, Novant Health’s executive vice president, mirrored Blabon’s sentiments. “We are thankful for this partnership,” she remarked. “It’s a wonderful way to show appreciation for our patients and team members.”
The initiative highlights the importance of compassion in healthcare. By providing flowers, Novant Health aims to create a warm atmosphere, reminding both patients and staff that they are valued. This act of kindness symbolizes a shared commitment to the community, illustrating how businesses and healthcare can work together for a greater good.
According to a recent survey, nearly 70% of patients reported feeling more positive about their hospital experience when surrounded by flowers. This aligns with research indicating that pleasant environments can improve well-being and recovery rates. Providing flowers in hospitals isn’t just a nice gesture; it has actual benefits for mental health.
Chris Dove, vice president of Food Lion’s Produce and Floral Category Management, shared his thoughts on the initiative. “Caring for our neighbors goes beyond our stores. We hope these flowers bring joy to everyone,” he said.
The impact of such community efforts resonates on social media as well. Many users took to platforms like Twitter and Instagram to share their gratitude, expressing how such kindness can make a significant difference in challenging times. It’s a reminder that small acts of generosity can have big effects, fostering a sense of togetherness in our communities.
This Valentine’s Day initiative not only brought beauty into hospitals but also reinforced the bond between local businesses and healthcare providers. Together, they make a meaningful impact, showing that love and care are always in season.
