What’s the plan for today? First things first, I’ll take my dog for a walk. He’s always by my side, almost like my shadow. If I sit down in the woods, he sits right in front of me, watching everything with such curiosity. He’s just amazing.
How about some Sunday food? I might have toast for breakfast. Nothing fancy today. I do enjoy a hearty Sunday lunch, but finding a good one is becoming rare. Many places don’t serve a decent roast anymore.
What’s been disappointing? The last roast I had was a letdown. The gravy was bland, and the potatoes were steamed—not roasted. Sunday roasts should be special. They’re not hard to make; they just take time. I love going out, but my expectations often don’t match the reality.
Has the pandemic affected this? It might have. When you finally find a great Sunday roast, it stands out. The last unforgettable one I had was a few years back in a Yorkshire pub. The meat was tender, the Yorkshire pudding and potatoes were perfectly crisp, and the gravy was rich and tasty. It was a meal to remember.
What were Sundays like when you were growing up? My mom was a fantastic cook. Sundays were quiet and felt more special back then. Life had a rhythm, especially in the 60s and 70s. Today, with all the technology, it’s easy to get distracted, and Sunday routines aren’t what they used to be.
Do you watch TV on Sundays? I usually look for a good movie instead. I’m not a big fan of regular TV anymore. It feels like it’s lost its charm, filled with too many silly game shows and not enough quality programming.
What’s your work schedule like on Sundays? I often work late into the night and sleep in because it’s quieter. I’m currently finishing up a book on tracking that will be out in May.
What’s your best tracking experience? That would be tracking snow leopards in China back in 2019, in the breathtaking Himalayas.
