China has successfully launched a new communication satellite. The Long March 3B rocket took off on Thursday night from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province at 11:32 pm local time.
This satellite, called Communication Technology Demonstrator 14, will test new ideas in space communication. It will focus on improving television and radio signal transmission and data relay. The satellite was built by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, part of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp (CASC).
The Long March 3B rocket is a trusted choice for many missions. It stands at 56.3 meters tall and has a diameter of 3.35 meters. With three stages and four side boosters, it uses liquid fuel and can carry up to 5.5 tons to geostationary transfer orbit. The rocket, when fully fueled, weighs around 456 metric tons.
This launch was notable as it was China’s sixth rocket mission this year and the 558th flight in the Long March family, which is essential for the country’s space activity.
