Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County, Arizona, recently shared with CBS News that investigators are looking into a chilling disappearance case involving Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie. Nancy has been missing since February 1, and authorities suspect she was taken from her Tucson home during the night.
In their search, investigators have focused on a suspect captured in a doorbell video. They believe the suspect wore a face mask and clothing purchased at Walmart. The sheriff highlighted the backpack the suspect carried, a black Ozark Trail Hiker, as a significant clue. Walmart has helped by providing records of all purchases related to this item over the last few months, both online and in stores.
Although it’s unclear if the suspect purchased the items locally, investigators have been reviewing surveillance footage from multiple Walmart locations.
To add to the investigation, authorities are conducting DNA testing on a glove found near Nancy’s home. The FBI stated that DNA results from this glove could lead to a profile being entered into CoDIS, the national DNA database. They described the suspect as a male with an average build, standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Despite these leads, investigators have not yet established a suspect. They have gathered additional DNA evidence from Nancy’s home, but it has yet to lead to any concrete findings.
Recently, law enforcement spent several hours searching a residence just two miles from Nancy’s house but did not find any significant leads or make any arrests. Sheriff Nanos mentioned that the search stemmed from a warrant following up on a lead.
In a heartfelt moment, Savannah Guthrie shared a video on Instagram, urging for her mother’s safe return. “It’s been two weeks since our mom was taken,” she expressed. “We still believe and we still have hope.”
As of now, the investigation continues, with multiple agencies involved. The use of advanced technology and community cooperation remains pivotal in narrowing down the search. Each day of uncertainty fuels the family’s hope for a positive outcome.
This case has resonated deeply on social media, with many users expressing their support for the Guthrie family. The hashtag #BringNancyHome has gained traction, reflecting the community’s concern and solidarity.
