Saint John’s hockey team is finishing the regular season with two big games against Concordia-Moorhead. The first match is on Thursday, February 19, at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud. The Johnnies will then head to Moorhead for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday, February 21.
Last weekend, Saint John’s completed a successful sweep against Augsburg. In their first game (February 12), the Johnnies won 5-3. They scored consistently across the periods, netting three goals in the final frame. Junior forward Jackson Borst played a key role, scoring one goal and assisting another. Senior captain Mason Campbell capped off the game with an empty-net goal, sealing the victory.
The next night, February 13, the Johnnies dominated with a 6-1 win. Ten players contributed to the score, and they outshot Augsburg 40-27. Freshman Tyler Smith made a splash, scoring his first collegiate goal, adding excitement to his debut.
Howe, the goaltender, stood out during the sweep. He accumulated 56 saves over the two games and was recognized as the MIAC Men’s Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. His stats this season are impressive: he leads the MIAC with a 2.38 Goals Against Average (GAA), proving his capability in the net.
On the other side, Concordia is looking to bounce back after a tough weekend, losing back-to-back games against Bethel. Caden Triggs leads Concordia with 12 goals and has been vital for his team. The Cobbers will be ready to challenge the Johnnies this weekend.
Historically, the Johnnies have fared well against Concordia, holding a 51-40-7 record since the 1984-85 season. They have won or tied in 38 of the last 55 encounters, showcasing their recent dominance.
