Watch This Adorable Dog Storm the Course at the Winter Olympics—But Will It Capture a Medal?

A local dog named Nazgul stole the spotlight at the Winter Olympics but missed out on a medal. This lively Czechoslovakian wolfdog decided to join a race in Tesero on a chilly Wednesday morning. As Croatia’s Tena Hadzic was nearing the finish line of her qualifying heat for the women’s cross-country sprint, Nazgul dashed onto the course. His run might have been impressive, but as a dog, his time didn’t count.

Hadzic was startled by this unexpected competitor. She admitted, “I was like, ‘Am I hallucinating?’ I didn’t know what to do.” After taking in the applause from the enthusiastic crowd, race officials quickly rounded up Nazgul.

With a light-hearted attitude, Hadzic remarked, “It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not fighting for medals or anything.” Still, she noted that if this had happened during a final, it could have impacted the race results.

Fellow racer Konstantina Charalampidou also shared her thoughts. She suggested Nazgul was more interested in the cameras than in racing properly. “He was cute but not aggressive,” she observed. “I wished I could pet him, but I couldn’t find him afterward.”

Nazgul’s owner explained that the two-year-old dog might have just wanted some company. “He was crying more than usual because he saw us leaving,” the owner said. It seems Nazgul is more of a social butterfly than a medal contender.

In a similar vein, reactions on social media were overwhelmingly positive. Users shared videos and pictures of Nazgul, with many calling for him to be named an honorary Olympic athlete. This delightful distraction reminds us that the Olympics, while serious, can also be a stage for fun surprises.

Interestingly, incidents where animals interrupt sporting events aren’t new. History shows that similar moments have created memorable experiences, often lightening the mood during intense competitions. Overall, Nazgul may not have crossed the finish line as a winner, but he certainly won hearts.
