Madi Morson Hits 1,000 Points with Style
In Oxford, Ohio, Madi Morson made history Wednesday night. She scored her 1,000th career point with a smooth pull-up jumper. This milestone marked her as the fastest player to reach this in Central Michigan Women’s Basketball history, surpassing even Sue Nissen ’91.
Head Coach Kristin Haynie praised Morson’s talent, stating, “Some skills you just can’t teach.” She noted that Madi’s hard work over the summer improved her shooting. This season, Morson has shown she can score in various ways, making her a tough player to defend.
Despite her impressive achievement, the Chippewas lost to the RedHawks, 65-53, ending their four-game winning streak in the Mid-American Conference. Morson led the team with 17 points, supported by Ayanna-Sarai Darrington and Demetria Prewitt, who contributed 14 and 13 points, respectively.

Morson had a tough start, only scoring five points by halftime. Prewitt was the leading scorer for CMU at the break, with eight points. Morson bounced back in the second half, scoring 12 more points, including her milestone basket right at the start.
In a season filled with close competition, the Mid-American Conference is proving unpredictable. Recently, other top teams faced surprising losses as well, underscoring the strength and competitiveness of the league. Massachusetts, ranked third, lost to sixth-place Toledo, while Ohio fell in a double-overtime thriller to last-place Akron.
