A coalition called “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) in Florida is expressing concerns about First Lady Casey DeSantis. They believe her recent focus on health issues feels insincere. Polls show many voters question her motives.
MAHA Moms of Florida released a survey that revealed some interesting statistics. About 34% of Republican primary voters said they don’t believe her statements on food safety. Additionally, 42% think her sudden interest is more of a distraction from her past controversies than a serious policy initiative. Only 34% of voters feel comfortable with her making decisions about their food.
The poll gathered opinions from 600 likely primary voters. It also highlighted a troubling episode regarding Hope Florida, a program linked to DeSantis. This program faced scrutiny over allegations of turning Medicare funds into political contributions. Although a Justice Department investigation cleared it of criminal charges, the state is still looking into it.
Interestingly, the MAHA movement appears to favor former President Donald Trump as a better representative of their agenda. Around 67% of those surveyed view him as the more reliable caretaker of health issues, while only 9% think DeSantis fits the bill. Additionally, 58% believe DeSantis should stop undermining Trump regarding these matters.
Voter distrust towards DeSantis is partly due to her lack of strong scientific backing for her claims. Around 85% of respondents think she should reference specific studies when discussing health and safety. Furthermore, 72% of people said they prefer data from multiple experts rather than a single political figure so they can feel more confident in its validity.
The responses indicate that 63% of voters might be less likely to support her as a potential governor if she continues pushing health claims without solid evidence. This highlights a growing demand for transparency and scientific rigor in health discussions.
MAHA Moms for Florida aims to hold politicians accountable, especially regarding health and safety. Their formation came during the 2024 elections when DeSantis was in a close race with Trump for the GOP nomination. They want to build political power based on strong, evidence-based health policies.
