Traveling between Jammu and Srinagar is about to get a lot easier. The popular Vande Bharat Express will soon extend its route to Jammu. Right now, it connects Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, but direct service from Jammu is just around the corner.
According to railway sources, upgrades at Jammu railway station are almost finished. The work included extending platforms and improving safety features. This upgrade delayed the launch, but now officials say the train could start running from Jammu as early as next week. An official announcement is expected soon.
The Vande Bharat Express is India’s fastest semi-high-speed train. It’s known for comfortable seating, air-conditioned coaches, onboard Wi-Fi, and better food services. The travel time between Katra and Srinagar is just over three hours by train. By road, that same trip can take six to seven hours, or even longer with traffic or bad weather. The new route will save time and make journeys much more pleasant.
The delays were mainly due to the thorough renovations at the Jammu station. Officials wanted to make sure everything was safe and up to standard before launching this high-speed service. The upgrades are crucial for managing more passengers and modern operations.
Since its launch, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has seen high demand. Even in winter, when snow can disrupt travel, the train stays popular. To accommodate this growth, the railways plan to increase the number of coaches from eight to 20 in the near future. This means more seats and a better experience for everyone traveling.
