Make Your Voice Heard: Join the 2026 Faculty Committee Nominations at @theU!

Each spring, the Senate Personnel and Elections Committee (SPEC) seeks nominations for university committees. This is an excellent opportunity for faculty members to get involved and make an impact.

The Faculty Interest Survey is currently open. By participating, faculty can express their interest in various committees, which address important topics like academic policy, strategic planning, and faculty wellbeing. This survey closes on March 6, 2026, so it only takes a few minutes of your time to influence key decisions at the university.

Dale Larsen, a former SPEC chair, emphasizes the importance of faculty involvement. He points out that academic freedom—like the ability to teach and research without fear—depends on shared responsibility in governance. From reviewing policies to ensuring safety, everyone’s input matters. If faculty don’t engage, there’s a risk of undermining vital research areas.

Here’s a quick look at some committees looking for new members:

  1. University Teaching Committee
  2. University Research Committee
  3. Campus Health and Safety Committee
  4. Academic Appeals and Misconduct Committee
  5. Athletics Advisory Committee

If you want to be considered for these committees, make sure to fill out the survey by March 6. The final appointments will be announced in May 2026.
