Tita’s Kitchen, a beloved Peruvian food truck in Oregon, is closing its doors this weekend. Founded by Fabiola Chipoco Poulsen in 2020, it aimed to bring the flavors of Peru to the local community.
The journey began at Portland Mercado, but when a fire devastated the market in 2024, things took a turn. Poulsen opened additional locations in Gresham and Happy Valley, but they ultimately faced closure too. Now, the last Tita’s Kitchen in Troutdale will shut down, as she announced on Instagram.
In her heartfelt message, Poulsen shared, “I started Tita’s Kitchen because I missed home. This business gave me community, purpose, and my family back.” She didn’t just bring her own flavors to the area; her cooking also helped reunite her family in the U.S.
Interestingly, food trucks have surged in popularity recently. A 2021 survey showed that 62% of people view food trucks as a convenient dining option—especially during busy times. This trend reflects a growing love for diverse cuisines and unique food experiences.
Despite the end of Tita’s Kitchen, Poulsen still runs two other brands: Blends Juice Bar and Lil’ Funky Donuts. Both offer tasty options in Portland’s Pine Street Market, allowing her culinary journey to continue.
As Tita’s Kitchen prepares to close, it leaves behind a legacy of community spirit and family ties. For many, it was more than just a food truck; it was a taste of home. The last day to visit is this Sunday.
