Sobico USA LLC from West Hartford, CT, is recalling 13,464 pounds of frozen catfish imported from Vietnam. According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), these fish did not go through the required import reinspection in the U.S.
The recall includes two specific products:
- Whole/Gutted Catfish: Packaged in 36-pound boxes, each vacuum-packed fish weighs between 10-18 oz.
- Catfish Steaks: Also in 36-pound boxes, with each package weighing 1.8 pounds.
These items were produced on June 24, 2025, and have best-before dates of June 23, 2027. They have Vietnam establishment number DL 811 and shipping mark VN/811/IV/107. The fish were sent to retail and wholesale outlets in states like Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, and Ohio.
The issue came to light during a review of import guidelines by the importer. Thankfully, there have been no reported illnesses linked to these products. However, if you think you’ve consumed any of the recalled items, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional.
The FSIS warns that these products might still be on store shelves or in consumers’ freezers. If you’ve bought these catfish, please do not eat them.
