Is the PS6’s Arrival in Jeopardy? Memory Crisis Could Postpone Launch by Another Decade!

The looming memory crisis could push back the release of the PS6, possibly for another decade. Phison’s CEO, Pua Khein-Seng, highlights some serious issues in the memory market. His company makes essential products like SSDs and flash drives, so he’s well aware of the situation.

Recent surges in RAM demand due to AI advancements are pushing prices up. This spike is starting to affect other memory types, which is bad news for the tech industry and consumers alike. Khein-Seng warns that smartphone, TV, and PC production might take a hit, and consoles will likely be included in the mix.

Sony has claimed that it has enough components to last until 2026. However, after that, the situation appears uncertain. Discussions are already swirling around the possibility of the PS6 missing its anticipated 2027 release.

Khein-Seng uses Nvidia’s next-gen Rubin AI GPUs to make a point. Each of these devices needs massive 20TB SSDs. Producing tens of millions of these could consume roughly 20% of global NAND production in 2025, leaving other manufacturers, like Sony, scrambling for the remaining supply. This competition will drive prices even higher.

The worst news? Khein-Seng believes we won’t see any major improvements in the memory crisis until 2030. His prediction paints a bleak picture for the PS6, as delays could extend well beyond what many thought was possible.

Historical context shows that tech industries have faced similar shortages before, like during the semiconductor crisis in the early 2000s. Back then, companies adapted, but it took years to stabilize the market.

In the current climate, social media users are vocal about their concerns. Many are sharing memes and discussions about the potential delays, with hashtags like #PS6Delay trending on Twitter. It seems gamers are not just worried about when they’ll get their hands on new consoles, but also about rising prices for existing technology.

While Khein-Seng’s insights are valuable, it’s crucial to remember that they are predictions. Only time will tell how things unfold in this complicated landscape, but it already looks challenging for those eagerly awaiting the next generation of consoles.
