Tulane Women’s Basketball Triumphs Over Memphis
Last night, Tulane’s freshman star, Shiloh Kimpson, made her first career start and nearly delivered a triple-double, leading her team to a solid 69-54 victory against Memphis at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena. This win marks Tulane’s second victory over Memphis in just two days, completing a season sweep against them.
The Green Wave showcased impressive shooting, making 42.1% of their attempts compared to Memphis’s 37.9%. Tulane also excelled at three-point shooting, hitting five while limiting the Tigers to only two. Though Memphis grabbed more rebounds (40-34), Tulane’s defense shined in creating turnovers. Tulane forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 25 points, while Memphis managed just 10 points from off turnovers.
In the first half, Tulane’s defense was particularly stingy, allowing Memphis to shoot only 27.6%. Tulane quickly seized control, finishing the first half with an impressive 50% shooting from the field.
Four Tulane players scored in double figures. Mecailin Marshall led the way with 15 points, while Kimpson added 12 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists, marking her first collegiate double-double. CC Mays and Amira Mabry contributed 11 points each. Mabry’s scoring pushed her career total to 1,041 points, placing her 29th on Tulane’s all-time scoring list.
Dyllan Hanna dominated the boards with 12 rebounds, while Mabry and Mays stood out defensively with multiple steals.
The game started with Tulane’s Kanija Daniel scoring swiftly, but Memphis responded with eight straight points. That momentum shifted when Marshall’s free throws ignited a 16-point run for the Wave. By the end of the first quarter, Tulane led 21-9.
The second quarter saw more of Tulane’s strong play, with Kimpson adding a three-point play that extended their lead. By halftime, they were up 39-20.
In the third quarter, Mays hit three foul shots that helped maintain their lead. Memphis attempted a comeback in the final period, cutting the deficit to 58-43 at one point. However, Tulane responded effectively, showcasing their composure and teamwork which culminated in a solid win.
Looking ahead, Tulane will face Tulsa next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., continuing their pursuit of excellence this season.
