Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green, classic titles from 2004, are heading to the Nintendo Switch next week to celebrate the Pokémon franchise’s 30th anniversary. These games will debut shortly after the much-anticipated Pokémon Presents event on February 27.
This year’s Pokémon Presents is expected to be special, kicking off at 6 AM Pacific / 9 AM Eastern / 2 PM UK time. Fans are excited to see what announcements will come, particularly regarding the soon-to-be-released life sim spin-off, Pokémon Pokopia. There’s also buzz about a possible reveal of the long-awaited 10th generation of games and Pokémon.
Unlike other retro titles on the Switch, Fire Red and Leaf Green will be available as standalone purchases on the eShop for $19.99 each. You can battle and trade with friends locally, though online play won’t be supported. However, players will likely be able to transfer Pokémon using Pokémon Home, the series’ cloud storage service.
In anticipation of Pokémon’s milestone, excitement is high. Last year, a leak hinted at details about new features in the upcoming 10th generation games, such as new gameplay mechanics and procedurally-generated areas. Fans are eager to see how these innovations will shape their gaming experience.
As part of the anniversary festivities, the franchise has already unveiled new LEGO sets, and a Super Bowl commercial featured Lady Gaga crooning a Jigglypuff song. With such celebrations, fans are looking forward to more surprises during the Pokémon Presents event.
