Reyk Knuhtsen, an analyst at SemiAnalysis, highlighted that these robots are getting better at mimicking human actions. He pointed out, “As we watch them push the physical boundaries humans are capable of, it becomes apparent they can achieve human-level actions, and eventually superhuman achievements.”
China has made rapid strides in humanoid robot development. A recent report by Barclays revealed that over 85% of the roughly 15,000 humanoid robots installed in 2025 were in China. This dominance comes from having a robust manufacturing base, which allows for lower production costs. For instance, Unitree, a leading Chinese company, expects to ship between 10,000 and 20,000 robots this year. In contrast, U.S. companies, including Tesla, face higher costs, with their humanoid robot priced around $20,000 or more.
Despite the impressive demonstrations, experts warn that there are still significant challenges ahead. While robots show potential in tasks requiring strength and agility, they still must prove reliable in real-world situations like healthcare or household chores. Knuhtsen noted that advancements in AI will ultimately determine the utility of these robots. The ability to perform complex tasks and function effectively in unpredictable environments is crucial.
The technology behind these robots is evolving quickly, but for them to be truly effective, they will need to combine physical prowess with smart reasoning abilities. As Lian Jye Su from Omdia put it, the real value lies in improving these cognitive abilities, which will enable robots to tackle more nuanced tasks and create economic benefits.
