Barry Manilow Postpones Concerts as He Focuses on Recovery from Cancer Surgery

Singer-songwriter Barry Manilow shared some difficult news: he has to postpone more concerts as he recovers from surgery for lung cancer.

In a heartfelt post on social media, the 82-year-old revealed he recently met with his surgeon. The doctor conveyed, “Barry, your lungs aren’t ready for a 90-minute show.” Although he praised Manilow for being in good shape given the circumstances, he stressed that the singer isn’t physically prepared for upcoming performances.

Manilow first disclosed his cancer diagnosis in December, following a serious bout of bronchitis. An MRI had detected a cancerous spot on one of his lungs. Reflecting on his fortunate discovery, Manilow said, “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”

Originally, his arena concerts were set to kick off in Tampa, Florida, on February 27. However, due to his recovery, the first series of shows, running until March 17, will now be rescheduled.

The “Copacabana” singer expressed genuine disappointment, acknowledging, “Deep down, I wanted to go back—but my body knew I wasn’t ready.” Even with working out on the treadmill several times a day, he admitted, “I still couldn’t sing more than three songs in a row before I had to stop.”

Fans have responded with overwhelming support on social media. Many share their well-wishes, expressing eagerness to see him return once he’s better. In his statement, Manilow promised, “When I do come back, I will COME BACK!!!”

Looking ahead, his surgeon mentioned a chance for him to perform in Las Vegas at the end of March, with the possibility of continuing the rest of the tour in April.

This moment highlights not just Manilow’s personal journey but also sheds light on health challenges that many artists face. The intersection of art and health has become more prominent, with public figures sharing their struggles.

For those following the latest in health and recovery trends in the arts, it’s worth noting that a recent survey found that nearly 60% of artists reported facing health issues that affect their performance. Manilow’s story resonates with so many, reminding us of the resilience and determination found in the human spirit.

While we await his triumphant return to the stage, let’s keep sending our good vibes and support to him during this challenging time.
