BATON ROUGE, La. – A nonprofit is organizing an event to shine a light on mental health and provide hope to those in need. The Rain Will Bring Flowers Foundation will host its 3rd Annual Planting Seeds of Hope gathering at LSU’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center on February 24 at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m., with parking available on campus.
This event aims to foster discussions around mental health and suicide prevention. Attendees can look forward to inspiring talks from figures like ESPN analyst Ryan Clark, American Idol finalist John Foster, NFL player Clyde Edwards-Helaire, former LSU Tiger Ronnie Rantz, and U.S. Army Veteran Sgt. Rick Yarosh.
The foundation was started by Jordan and Lisa Tabor in 2023 after they lost their son, Owen, to suicide. Owen was a bright, popular teen who came from a supportive family. “If Owen was a victim of suicide, then all of our youth are at risk,” Lisa shared. This statement underscores the prevalence of mental health issues among young people today.
The Tabors emphasize that no one should feel isolated. “It’s okay not to be okay,” Jordan stated. They hope to create a space where families understand they are not alone in their struggles.
The Rain Will Bring Flowers Foundation has partnered with LSU, the Joe Burrow Foundation, and FMOL Health for this crucial event. Jordan expressed gratitude for the community support, highlighting the need to spread their important message.
Recent statistics show that mental health problems are escalating, especially among youth. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2021. This indicates a growing need for understanding and resources in communities.
