The University of Mount Saint Vincent wrapped up their 2025-26 basketball season on a spirited note during their senior day against the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Riverdale, NY. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as players and fans celebrated the contributions of the senior players.
In a touching pre-game ceremony, six seniors—Julia Angeles, AB Burnett, Sofia Marcos, Ashley Marrocco, Kyla McLean, and Lexi Tucker—were honored. Angeles, Burnett, Marcos, McLean, and Tucker were also part of the starting lineup.
During the game, several milestones were reached. Angeles played her 100th game for the Dolphins, while McLean scored her 100th career point. Tucker made her first career start, adding to the day’s celebrations.
The senior group brought energy to the court, keeping the game competitive against the top-seeded Mariners. At one point in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins closed the gap to just 11 points. Marrocco finished her career strong, contributing another double-digit scoring effort, bringing her tally to eight for the season. Sophomore Grace Kennedy also shone, posting 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Burnett, Angelina Escobinas, and Alexa Zephirin each added seven points, while Michaela Ligon led the team on the boards with seven rebounds.
Despite the ups and downs this season, the team is focused on regrouping and looking ahead. They aim to strengthen their lineup and return to the Skyline Conference postseason next fall.
In recent years, college basketball has seen an increase in participation, with women’s programs gaining more visibility and support. According to a 2022 NCAA report, women’s basketball participation has grown by nearly 20% over the last decade. This trend showcases the rising interest in women’s sports, inspiring younger generations.
As the Dolphins prepare for the upcoming season, they join many teams in the pursuit of excellence, buoyed by a passionate fan base and a commitment to improvement.
