Join Us for the Scholarship Luncheon: Celebrating Excellence and the Rising Momentum at Alvernia!

Alvernia University recently held its annual Scholarship Luncheon, marking a special day for over 150 admitted students and their families. This event, hosted at the Tom and Helen Flynn PLEX, saw the largest turnout in six years, showing the growing interest in the university.

Associate Vice President of Admissions, Bret Krotee, kicked off the celebration. He emphasized Alvernia’s commitment to making education more accessible. The support from the admissions team and Student Financial Services helps students navigate enrollment smoothly.

President Glynis A. Fitzgerald gave an inspiring speech. She congratulated the students for their hard work in academics, sports, and community service. “You have shown leadership and dedication,” she said, encouraging them to continue leading with purpose.

This year’s recruitment is thriving, with first-year enrollments jumping 49% compared to last year. Krotee noted how the Scholarship Luncheon vividly showcases the Alvernia experience. Families left with a solid understanding of financial aid and the supportive community awaiting them.

Professor Victoria Williams shared insights about Alvernia’s academic offerings. She explained that college is what you make of it. Some students may struggle to find meaningful experiences in larger schools, but Alvernia provides unique opportunities for hands-on learning and mentorship, especially through the Honors Program.

Senior student Alexa Ullrich added her perspective. She spoke about the strong sense of community at Alvernia. “Getting involved was one of the best decisions I made,” she noted. This atmosphere offers more than just academics; it fosters personal connections and growth.

The luncheon also included the presentation of various scholarships, such as the Boscov and Provost Scholarships, recognizing students’ achievements.

Alvernia’s recent accomplishments include being ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top national university for the fourth consecutive year. The university was also acknowledged for its efforts in social mobility and student success, including a 74% retention rate for first-year students, showing strong support for all students, especially first-generation learners.

As recruitment continues, events like the Scholarship Luncheon will play a vital role in helping students envision their future at Alvernia. The next big event is Packapalooza, scheduled for March 21, 2026.

Overall, Alvernia is creating an environment where students can thrive academically and socially, shaping their future paths.
