BOSTON – The Boston University women’s basketball team faced a tough loss against Lehigh, ending the game 76-61 on Saturday at Case Gym. Despite Anete Adler’s impressive 24 points, the Terriers struggled to gain any momentum.
The Mountain Hawks showcased a strong performance, hitting 13 three-pointers and shooting nearly 52% from the field. This victory broke Boston University’s modest two-game winning streak.
Adler matched her career high with 12 field goals on 16 attempts. Sophomore Hildur Gunnsteinsdóttir added nine points, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
Lehigh had four players in double figures, led by Lily Fandre with 22 points. Alana Reddy contributed 17 points, including five threes, while Belle Bramer added 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The game quickly tilted in Lehigh’s favor. They led 8-2 early, pushing BU to call a timeout just a few minutes in. The Terriers’ first basket came late in the first quarter, and they trailed 17-10 at the end of that period. Adler scored six consecutive points to keep her team close.
In the second quarter, BU attempted to rally but couldn’t overcome the Mountain Hawks’ shooting. Lehigh went into halftime with a solid 37-25 lead.
The third quarter saw BU claw back to a 41-33 score, but Lehigh responded with a flurry of successful shots, expanding their lead to 58-38. The Mountain Hawks capped off the quarter with a commanding 63-40 advantage.
Even as the Terriers tried to close the gap in the fourth quarter, including a late three from Azmoudeh, they couldn’t threaten Lehigh’s hold on the game. Reddy’s key three-pointer halted any hopes of a comeback.
In summary, the Terriers shot 47.3%, converting 26 of 55 attempts. Rebounding was a bright spot for BU, as they outpaced Lehigh 30-26. Adler and Anastasiia Semenova each grabbed seven rebounds, while McLaughlin led with five assists.
Some notes to consider: Adler scored over 20 points for the fifth time this season, and BU allowed an opponent to shoot over 50% for the first time since November. Historically, Lehigh now leads the all-time series 15-14 after both teams split their regular season matchups.
Looking ahead, BU will celebrate Senior Day next Saturday (Feb. 28) against American at 11:30 a.m. This game will be an important opportunity for the team to rebound and end the season on a high note.
