FORT MYERS, Fla. – The UConn softball team had a mixed day at the Gulf Coast Classic on Saturday. They lost to Louisville 10-2 in the first game but bounced back to defeat Florida Gulf Coast 4-3 in the second matchup. This brings their overall record to 3-10 for the season.
In the first game, freshman Caprice Bohmer started on the mound but struggled, allowing nine runs in 2.2 innings. UConn managed to score two runs, one from Ava Calciano’s RBI triple and another from Alexis Juhl’s groundout, but it wasn’t enough.
In the second game, grad student Jessica Walter took the mound and showed her skills, pitching 5.1 innings with six strikeouts while giving up just two runs. Cat Petteys hit a solo home run early, and later, she added another homer, marking her first multi-homer game.
The Huskies fought hard, especially in the final innings. Florida Gulf Coast threatened by loading the bases in the seventh, but Caprice Bohmer stepped in to earn her first career save.
