Ocracoke Health Center, Inc. has appointed Jamie Tunnell Carter as its new Chief Executive Officer. Jamie has been with the center since 2008, taking on various roles from front desk staff to leadership positions. She has been serving as Interim CEO since April 2025 and was officially promoted to the role on January 29, 2026.
A native of Hyde County, Jamie grew up in Swan Quarter and has deep connections to the community. Her earlier work as Hyde County’s Public Information Officer and her involvement during severe weather events reflect her commitment to local issues. “The values I learned growing up in this beautiful place guide my leadership,” she says.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Professional Communications from Meredith College, and her focus has always been on supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers. Jamie aims to expand services in Hyde and Dare counties, ensuring they reach underserved populations.
Sue Pentz, Board Chair, praised her commitment. “Jamie understands our mission of providing quality, affordable care,” she noted.
