Voice-to-text on Android has been a bit hit or miss, especially outside of Google’s Pixel phones. However, the new app “Wispr Flow” aims to change that, bringing significant upgrades to this technology without changing your keyboard.
“Wispr Flow” is an AI-driven voice dictation tool that has been popular on Windows and iOS for a while. Its goal? To replace manual typing. It promises to let you express your thoughts naturally and quickly.
“After 150 years of typing, voice that truly works is finally here. Speak effortlessly, and let Flow do the rest,” said a representative from Wispr.
Unlike its iOS version, which replaces your keyboard, the Android version of Flow works alongside your current keyboard. A small floating button activates the app, allowing you to dictate text that gets instantly inserted into your messages or documents. You can even correct errors as you speak, and Wispr is designed to ignore irrelevant words.
This app supports over 100 languages, including a blend of Hindi and English known as Hinglish. This is a game-changer for multilingual users.
During its early access phase, Wispr Flow is completely free on Android, with no limitations. For context, similar services on iOS usually cap usage at 1,000 words a week, with unlimited access costing around $12 per month on other platforms.
Early reactions from users have been largely positive. Many appreciate the ability to speak freely without worrying about typing each word. A recent survey indicated that 65% of users found voice-to-text to be more efficient than typing. In the world we live in, where time is precious, this feature feels like a valuable contribution.
As we continue to explore Wispr Flow, stay tuned for our detailed impressions soon!
