Aviation High School in Long Island City, N.Y., has teamed up with Thomas Edison State University (TESU). This partnership allows students to earn college credit for their FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanical certifications. This credit can help students as they pursue various degree programs at TESU.
With this agreement, students can apply their earned credits toward several TESU degrees, such as:
- Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Support
- Associate of Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management
- Bachelor of Science in Technical Studies
“This collaboration is a powerful step forward,” said Dr. Merodie A. Hancock, president of TESU. She emphasized that recognizing the college-level learning students gain at Aviation High School will expand opportunities and accelerate their paths to completing their degrees.
The partnership is part of TESU’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Program. This program celebrates learning gained outside traditional classroom settings, specifically acknowledging the FAA aviation certificates earned by students at Aviation High School. This not only streamlines the educational journey but also supports students in achieving their academic goals efficiently.
As of now, there’s a growing trend in education to recognize alternative learning pathways. According to a recent report from the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly 40% of college students have taken courses that offer credit for prior learning.
