HARTFORD – The UConn men’s basketball team, currently ranked No. 6, is gearing up for an exciting showdown against No. 15 St. John’s on Wednesday night. The game takes place at PeoplesBank Arena, starting at 7 p.m. You can catch the action live on Peacock and NBCSN.
This game is special for fans, as it’s a Blue-White STRIPE OUT night. Plus, there’s a Husky Happy Hour featuring $3 beers, hot dogs, and pizza. Free rally towels will also be available for the student section.
Both UConn (25-3, 15-2 BIG EAST) and St. John’s (22-5, 15-1 BIG EAST) are at the top of the conference standings. They are the last two champions of the regular season and tournament, with just half a game separating them. Previously, St. John’s won their first match this season at Madison Square Garden on February 6. Historically, they lead the all-time series 40-36, although UConn holds a 6-5 advantage since returning to the BIG EAST in 2020.
In their last game, UConn secured a strong win against Villanova, shooting over 54% and building a 21-point lead in the second half. Alex Karaban led the scoring with 12 points, while Tarris Reed Jr. made quite an impact, contributing 11 points and several key defensive plays. This victory marked UConn’s ninth road win this season, tying for the most among high major teams.
On the stats front, Solo Ball leads UConn with an average of 14.2 points per game, supported by four other starters scoring in double figures. Tarris Reed Jr. is noteworthy for his rebounding and shot-blocking skills, while Braylon Mullins shines as a three-point shooter, leading the BIG EAST with an impressive average. Silas Demary Jr. rounds out the scoring with his strong assists record.
St. John’s is entering the matchup on a high note, riding a 13-game winning streak—their longest in over 40 years. Zuby Ejiofor is leading the team with averages of 15.9 points and 7.2 rebounds. Other players like Bryce Hopkins and Oziyah Sellers are also key contributors.
After the game against St. John’s, UConn will honor its seniors during their final home game against Seton Hall on February 28 at Gampel Pavilion.
