NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University men’s golf team faced challenging cold and windy weather on Monday but bounced back with a strong performance on Tuesday. They finished their first spring event, the Gulf Coast Collegiate at English Turn, with solid scores.
In the final round, Nicholls posted a score of 299, placing them fifth for the day. Only Augusta, Loyola Chicago, St. John’s, and Central Arkansas had better results. After rounds of 322 and 323 on Monday, the Colonels ended up in 10th place out of 15 teams, totaling 944 overall.
Jack Moro led the team with a top-20 finish, tying for 14th place with a score of 229. His rounds included a 78, a 79, and a stellar even-par 72 on Tuesday. Kyle Traub delivered an impressive performance, achieving a 2-under 70 in his final round. He played without any bogeys on the front nine, adding four birdies, and finished tied for 26th with a total score of 233.
Chase Pochylko trailed closely behind, scoring 234 with four birdies to his name. Both Zachary Morvant and Alston Manne ended with scores of 258.
Next up, the Colonels will compete in the Colin Montgomerie Invitational in Houston starting Monday, March 2.
