The Food Bank of Northern Indiana is rolling out its Mobile Food Distribution events this March, with locations in La Porte and Starke Counties to help those in need.
In La Porte County, the first distribution is on Friday, March 6, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Salvation Army, 3240 Monroe Street. This event, sponsored by Morgan Stanley, will support 200 households.
Another event will take place on Wednesday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lacrosse Apostolic Christian Church, 508 Mill Street. Citizens Concerned for the Homeless will sponsor this distribution, which will assist 150 households.
On March 19, Starke County will host a distribution from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the San Pierre Fire Department, 102 Fisher Street. This event, supported by the Hardesty Memorial Endowment Fund and the Starke County Health Department, will also provide USDA food items and serve 150 households.
Finally, on March 25, there will be a distribution at the Marquette Mall, 201 West US 20 in Michigan City, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Sponsored again by Citizens Concerned for the Homeless, this event aims to serve 350 households.
All distributions operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with supplies lasting until they run out. Each household is limited to one pre-boxed or pre-bagged item. Participants can simply drive up; volunteers will load the items directly into their vehicles. If your trunk doesn’t open, there will be an area for self-loading available.
Food insecurity is a pressing issue, especially in these tough times. According to recent statistics, about 10.5% of households in Indiana face hunger. Initiatives like these distribute vital resources to combat it. Community leaders emphasize the importance of local support in addressing these challenges.
