Name: Alexandra Raloff
Year: Junior
Major: Mathematics Teacher Education
Minor: English
Hometown: Tinley Park

What led you to Illinois State University?

“I wanted a university that felt like home but also offered independence. Illinois State had a solid reputation for teacher education, which drew me in. I love tackling math problems and wanted to dive deeper into this subject while also pursuing my interest in English writing and literature.”

How have you engaged with campus life at Illinois State?

“I’ve made a lot of friends and attended events like Welcome Week. I’ve been involved in several registered student organizations, but I’m most active in Vocal Movement, where I hold multiple roles such as treasurer and choreographer. I also participate in the Honors Program, where I’ve enjoyed classes and experiences, especially a rewarding trip to Cumberland State Park for Alternative Spring Break. It felt amazing to contribute to trail building and connect with nature.”

What’s a proud moment you’ve had at Illinois State?

“So many moments stand out, but one I cherish was the final day of my honors trip when we took a break at Daddy’s Creek. The work we did was tough, yet I felt proud for pushing through, even when fatigue set in. That time spent resting at the creek made me appreciate all our hard work and the friendships I formed along the way.”

Insights from Associate Professor Óscar Chavez:

“Alexandra was a standout student in MAT 211. She approached geometry with enthusiasm and precision. Her proofwriting was always creative and insightful, showcasing her analytical skills. I believe she has a bright future ahead as a mathematics teacher. Her upcoming students will have the privilege of learning from a thoughtful and talented educator.”
