The Railway Board has delayed the extension of the Vande Bharat Express, which was set to connect Jammu and Srinagar starting March 1, 2026. This decision came shortly after Northern Railways had announced the extension with much anticipation.
Uchit Singhal, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, shared that the delay is due to unavoidable circumstances. He assured that updates would be provided as soon as they become available, apologizing for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The extension was expected to enhance rail connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir, making travel easier for residents and tourists alike. The Vande Bharat Express service, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June, was designed to provide consistent rail access to the Kashmir Valley, following the completion of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link project.
Currently, the train operates between Srinagar and Katra with eight-car coaches. Plans to expand to 20-car coaches for the Jammu to Srinagar route have now been put on hold, prompting questions from potential passengers eager for improved travel options.
