Google recently rolled out exciting updates for Android, highlighting new tools powered by Gemini and enhanced scam detection features. This was announced at Samsung’s event.
One standout feature is in the Gemini app. Users will now be able to hand off tasks, like ordering a rideshare or creating a grocery list, while they multitask. This feature will be in beta initially and will run in the background. Users can track its progress through notifications, allowing them to jump in whenever needed.
Google has stated that this feature will be limited to specific services, such as food delivery and rideshare apps, and will initially be available on devices like the Galaxy S26 in select regions, including the US and Korea.
Android is also receiving a boost with a new search capability called “Circle to Search.” This allows users to search for multiple objects seen on their screen. For instance, users can find outfit pieces by simply circling them. Once identified, these items can be tried on virtually, making shopping easier and more interactive. This feature will also launch on Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 devices.
Furthermore, Google is enhancing its scam protection using Gemini. For calls made through Samsung’s Phone app, the technology will alert users if the person on the line has speech patterns typical of scammers. Importantly, this feature is off by default and won’t activate during calls with known contacts.
Statistics show that scam calls are rising, with the Federal Trade Commission reporting over 5 million complaints in recent years. Google aims to combat this trend with its advanced features. The same technology will also help identify scams within Google Messages.
For now, scam detection for calls is limited to the Galaxy S26 in English in the US, while message detection is more widely available. These features are available now on devices like the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26, with rollouts varying by market.
