Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro, continuing to echo Apple’s design choices in aesthetics and functionality. Both models feature a sleek design reminiscent of previous versions, but with notable upgrades.
The standard Galaxy Buds 4 use an 11mm dynamic speaker. They don’t include silicone ear tips. In contrast, the Buds 4 Pro come with a choice of silicone tips and a dual driver system, featuring a 5.5mm planar tweeter and a larger 11mm woofer. Samsung claims this new woofer is about 20% larger than in prior models, leading to a 50% reduction in audio distortion.
Price-wise, the Buds 4 are set at $179, while the Pro version will be $249. Preorders began on February 25, with official sales starting on March 11. Both versions come in black and white, with a pink gold option available only online for the Pro.
Both earbuds support active noise canceling (ANC) and ambient sound modes. However, the Buds 4 Pro feature enhanced ANC capabilities, reportedly improving performance by 3dB over previous models. Unique features include voice detection, which amplifies conversation when your voice is detected, and siren detection that alerts you by raising ambient sound when emergency vehicles are nearby.
Samsung’s expert statements underline the importance of smart features. Only Galaxy users will experience the full range of features, such as quick pairing and voice assistant access. Using Bluetooth 6.1, the Buds also feature support for Samsung’s proprietary audio codecs, promising high-quality sound.
Battery life is slightly improved compared to Buds 3, with the Pro offering up to seven hours of playback (six with ANC on), and the standard model providing up to six hours (five with ANC). Both cases support wireless charging and now have a clamshell design, moving away from flip-top cases.
Another interesting aspect is the Buds’ IP ratings: IP54 for the standard and IP57 for the Pro, indicating good resistance to dust and water. However, the charging case lacks an IP rating.
Overall, while the Buds 3 Pro had great audio quality, they fell short in ANC performance. With the new models, Samsung seems to address these concerns, making the Buds 4 and 4 Pro promising options for Galaxy device users looking for quality audio and seamless integration.
