Recently, Xbox’s EVP and CCO, Matt Booty, addressed these concerns in an interview with Windows Central. He emphasized that Xbox is not stepping back from creating its own games or hardware.

Booty stated, “It is core to our partnership with the Microsoft platform, being involved in early hardware decisions.” He shared that they’re committed to first-party games and are actively working on exciting projects, including new consoles and handheld devices, such as the Xbox Ally.

His words carry weight, especially with major game releases scheduled this year and potential new consoles launching by 2027. Asha Sharma, Xbox’s new CEO, echoed Booty’s sentiments, reinforcing that Xbox’s identity is rooted in its consoles and hardware, stating that “returning to Xbox starts with console and hardware.”

This ongoing commitment could also be seen as Xbox’s strategy to regain market share and strengthen brand loyalty. In 2022, nearly 55% of gamers cited exclusive titles as a significant factor in their console choice, according to a recent survey (source: Statista). This highlights how vital it is for Xbox to maintain its first-party game development.
