Hundreds of high school students from across Wisconsin will come together at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for the Educators Rising State Conference on March 4, 2026. This event is a chance for students in grades 9-12 to dive into teaching careers, connect with others, and showcase their skills.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Grow, Teach, Lead into Greatness.” Students will engage in breakout sessions led by experienced educators and have the option to participate in competitions. They’ll also find a recruitment fair featuring 16 colleges and professional organizations, making it a valuable networking opportunity.
Ana Celia Báez, the 2025 Wisconsin State Teacher of the Year and a passionate advocate for equitable education, will deliver the keynote address. She’s spent over a decade as a bilingual school counselor and aims to highlight how teachers can make a significant impact on lives and communities.
Peggy Wirtz-Olsen, president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), emphasizes the importance of preparing the next generation of educators. “Our participants embody the future of public schools,” she says, highlighting the commitment required for effective teaching.
Katie Anderson-Pence, head of the School of Education at UW-Stevens Point, notes that collaboration between schools, higher education, and communities is essential for strengthening the teacher pipeline. By working together, they’re not just preparing teachers but also creating connections among students interested in education.
The WEAC, Wisconsin’s largest teachers’ organization, aims to elevate public education and support students. Since 1894, UW-Stevens Point’s School of Education has been vital in training future teachers in various specialties.
The Harju Center for Opportunities in Education also plays a key role in providing access to high-quality teacher preparation, particularly for those in rural areas, addressing educational inequities in Wisconsin.
