Dehradun: The seventh edition of “Dharma Guardian,” a joint military exercise between India and Japan, is currently taking place in Chaubatia, Almora, Uttarakhand. This two-week training session began on February 24 and runs until March 9, 2026. It aims to strengthen defense ties between the two countries.
Each year, this exercise alternates between India and Japan. This time, 120 soldiers from India and Japan are participating. The Indian Army has sent troops from the Ladakh Scouts, while Japan is represented by the 32nd Infantry Regiment.
The main goal of “Dharma Guardian” is to prepare troops for joint operations in semi-urban settings. The soldiers will focus on staying physically fit, improving joint planning, and enhancing teamwork during tactical drills. Current military technology will play a significant role in these operations, ensuring that both armies can collaborate effectively.
Activities scheduled for this exercise include setting up temporary bases, developing intelligence and surveillance capabilities, and conducting search operations. Special drills, such as heliborne operations, will also take place.
