Exciting News: Nominate Outstanding Individuals for the Florida State University Arts Advocate Award During Opening Nights!

The nomination period for the annual Arts Advocate Award is now open at Florida State University. This award honors a Leon County Schools educator who has made significant contributions to arts education. Nominations will be accepted until April 6.

The award celebrates teachers who inspire students through various art forms, such as music, theatre, visual arts, and dance. It highlights those who blend creativity into their teaching, making a lasting impact on their students and communities.

Jordan Phillips, the education and engagement manager at Opening Nights at FSU, emphasized the importance of the award, stating, “These educators are vital for enriching our schools and community through the arts.” Their efforts ensure that students experience the unique creativity and connection the arts offer.

To qualify for nomination, educators must be employed by Leon County Schools during the 2025–2026 academic year and show a strong commitment to quality arts education. Anyone can nominate, including faculty, students, parents, and community members, and self-nominations are encouraged.

Being an arts advocate means promoting the arts as a key part of education and student development. Ideal candidates are those who create engaging artistic experiences, foster curiosity, and ensure all students can access the arts.

The award winner will receive:

  • An educational engagement for their class, presented by Opening Nights during the 2026–2027 school year.
  • Producer’s Circle Membership benefits for the next season.

According to a recent report from the National Arts Education Association, schools with strong arts programs report higher student engagement and improved academic performance. These findings underscore the importance of recognizing and supporting arts educators.
